Stage 1: Day 1-3
An X-Ray procedure (gastrography) may be performed in the morning after surgery to evaluate the new stomach and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, one can take one ounce of water (30 ml) at room temperature each hour while awake.
Diet:
Day 1: Only sips of water.
Day 2-3: Clear Liquids (Total fluid 1-1.5 L per day).
- No sugar, no fat
- Sip 50 ml liquids (transparent form) in one hour using a spoon
- Don't use straw
- Stop when there is a feeling of fullness
- Drink water in between the other liquids
- All liquids should be strained before consumption
- No carbonated and alcoholic beverages

Stage 2: Day 4-20
- Thicker consistency liquids to be consumed (No sugar, no fat)
- Sip liquids slowly to prevent dumping syndrome
- Intake of one litre of fluid is beneficial every day to pass clear urine
Diet: Full Liquid Diet (Total fluid 2-2.5 L)
- Try to consume 200 - 250 ml fluids per waking hour
- Do not add maida or corn flour to the soup
Diet Plan:
- Tea with skimmed milk
- Skimmed milk with sugar-free stevia (vanilla essence or elaichi powder can be used for flavor)
- Vegetable soup (tomato, carrot, spinach, mix veg) / chicken soup
- Lassi / buttermilk (salted + zeera powder)
- Fresh juice without sugar (apple / orange / watermelon / carrot / tomato)
- Tea with skimmed milk / coconut water
- Soup (chicken / dal / vegetable)
- Thin custard (made from skimmed milk)

Stage 3: Day 21-30
- Demand for an increased protein requirement
- Food consistency should be in mashed form
- Eat 5 small meals in diet per day (early breakfast, mid-morning, lunch, evening eat, and dinner)
- Do not skip or add meals
- Avoid spicy food
Diet: Pureed Form / Baby Food Consistency
- Food with no fats, no sugar, and high in protein
- Use a blender or a food processor
- Try to slowly sip 120 - 150 ml of fluids every hour between meals
- Consume fluids 30 minutes before and after meals

- Introduce new soft foods slowly
- Avoid fiber to allow continued healing and lessen the chance of obstruction
- If nausea, pain, or vomiting occurs - STOP TAKING MEALS. Take clear liquids for your next meal

- Root vegetables like potato, sweet potato, yam, colocasia, jimikand, beetroot, etc.
- Fruits like chikoo, mangoes, banana, and grapes, etc.
- Pickles in oil
- Avoid dry fruits except almonds and walnuts
- Horlicks, Complan, Bournvita, etc.
- Nibbling & snacking in between meals
